Time & Talents is a local charity based in Rotherhithe and Bermondsey. Our mission is to create a place ‘where everyone feels part of a community’. We bring people of all ages together for mutual support, fun and friendship through a range of services and activities that address social isolation and increase mental and physical wellbeing. Our older people’s services support over 400 older people with personalised care and support on an individual or group basis.
Our groups include a Happy Mondays club for older people who are experiencing social isolation and are at high risk of developing mental illness, alongside a much needed Stroke club offering support for stroke patients and their carers, designed to help maintain independence, and reduce the likelihood of further strokes. A specialist group for visually impaired people also sits alongside a social contact group for older women who are experiencing mental health issues. While some of our groups have been running for many years, we are constantly innovating to ensure we need the changing needs of local residents. We run strength and balance keep fit classes in partnership with Guys and St Thomas’ hospital. Our Pub Club reduces isolation and improves health for older men, while our Shed project provides creative opportunities for older people. To make sure our activities are accessible to people who are very frail and lack accessibility, we provide a fully escorted minibus service for many of these activities, because 80% of older people we work with have multiple disabilities. Alongside our groups, we provide a good deal of one-to-one care and support. We run a befriending service for older people who are housebound and would otherwise see no-one for days.
