Who we are

Southwark Carers supports people who care for someone who resides in the London Borough of Southwark. All our services are free to carers in Southwark.

Southwark Carers is a service user led organization and is governed by an annually elected Board of Carers and former Carers.

Three out five people in the UK will become carers at some point in their lives. Many carers will never access services believing that they are naturally doing what anyone would for a loved one.  Southwark Carers provides a voice to and raises the profile of 26,000 carers in the Borough of Southwark, they save the local economy £502, 736,000, equating to a saving of £19,336 for each carer in the Borough. Southwark Carers goal is to improve the lives of carers in need who care for the elderly, sick, disabled, mentally ill or otherwise infirm by any means that is charitable. Our services sit under the banner of enabling, empowering and enriching the lives of carers. Specifically, we offer information, advice and emotional and practical support for carers who look after someone living in Southwark. Our support ranges from housing, benefits, grants, food parcels, to advocacy and support in navigating and resolving concerns with social and health services, groups and activities to reduce the social isolation of carers. We work in partnership across the statutory, voluntary and commercial sectors, liaising  with our national partners and establishing best practice for carers. We offer training and information sharing events to carers and professionals.
